Mike Pandey is one of India’s most celebrated wildlife and environmental filmmakers, whose pioneering work has brought global attention to the country’s rich biodiversity and urgent conservation challenges. With a career spanning over four decades, he has produced more than 600 films that have not only educated but also influenced environmental policy in India.
His groundbreaking documentaries—The Last Migration, Shores of Silence, and Vanishing Giants—have earned him three Green Oscars at the Wildscreen Festival in the UK, along with numerous national and international awards. His film Shores of Silence led to the protection of the whale shark under Indian law, and his television series Earth Matters reached millions of viewers on Doordarshan, igniting public awareness on issues from deforestation to species extinction.
At Purple Umbrella Festival 2025, Mike Pandey joins us as a guiding force for the Short Films & Documentaries track. He will curate a special showcase of his landmark films and help spotlight a new generation of young filmmakers capturing the climate crisis through their lens.
His life’s work is a testament to the power of film in inspiring action, and we’re honored to have him on board.
